We’ve Got Your Weekend Covered

September 22, 2017

Welcome to Drink Toronto’s weekly “Quick Sip Shopping” List of the steals, deals and awesome things in the world of food and drink we’ve seen this week. Designed to make your life easier, this round up is aimed at getting you in and out of the LCBO faster (perfect for those Union Station dashes to make the GO Train), and eliminate the humming and hawing over where to go for date-night.

Wines for the Weekend

Radford Dale Syrah, Stellenbosch, South Africa 2013
$29.95 Vintages 433813
A gorgeous, deep red that makes for an impressive gift, or just enjoying all to yourself. Smoked meat and spice dominate the nose, but there’s a curious oyster shell note lurking in the background. Smooth yet firm on the palate, with a gorgeous blend of ripe dark fruit and smokey, earthy complexity.
Pair with: Roasted leg of lamb

Flat Rock Cellars “Rusty Shed” Chardonnay, VQA Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Peninsula, ON 2014
$26.95 Vintages 001552
Named after the rusty shed that sits in the middle of the vineyard, grapes for this impressive Chard come from the best blocks, and the best barrels. Creamy and rich, with notes of ripe peach, citrus and toast.
Pair with: Roast chicken.

Cave de Lugny “Cuvée Millesime” Brut, Crémant de Bourgogne, France 2013
$21.95 Vintages 183764
Crémants are sparkling wines made in the traditional style of Champagne, but elsewhere in France. And bubbly drinkers in-the-know understand this is where some excellent bargains can be found. A blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (also the main grapes of Champagne), this is crisp and fresh with notes of fresh pastry, apple and lemon.
Pair with: Raw oysters.

That’s the Spirit

Gooderham & Worts Canadian Whisky $44.95, 750 mL
Use in: The Toronto Cocktail

You Gotta Eat Here

922 Queen St W.
This weekend is going to be hot, hot, hot! So celebrate this crazy fall weather like you wanted to do all summer: on a patio! Carmen’s back patio is a Spanish oasis, so peaceful and serene you can’t believe you’re on Queen West. Laid back and casual, this is the perfect spot to grab the gang and kick back with some pintxos, and the best paella and sangria in the city.
