SUN & SURF WITH RICHMOND STATION: Our pals at Richmond Station want to take you on an adventure to the Dominican Republic for a week of cooking workshops, surfing lesson and… yoga. (Well, two out of three ain’t bad… kidding. Namaste.) This culinary retreat happens in November, with just 20 spots available, at El Coco Loco Eco Resort, which is owned by Canadian friends of Richmond Station’s Carl Heinrich and Ryan Donovan. Don’t expect a big-resort kind of vibe; do expect an intimate, fun gaggle of friends relaxing and reading and swimming (when not cooking and eating) on a small six-acre beachfront resort. Sounds idyllic, yes?
TASTEMAKER MAKES IT EASY: We’re just a few days away from Tastemaker, which bills itself as Toronto’s hottest new food festival, taking place at Evergreen Brick Works on Friday and Saturday (May 18-19). There are some fun events in store, including a BBQ wild game presentation with Antler Kitchen and Bar’s Andrew Hunter that will get an Indian twist via Vikram Vij. (We’re intrigued…) Also on the lineup: Afrim Pristine from Cheese Boutique, Ivana Raca from Resto Boemo, Grant van Gameren from Bar Isabel and Bar Raval and tons more, Alida Solomon from Tutti Matti, Patrick Kriss from Alo, Rob Gentile from Buca and Victor Barry from Piano Piano (and more). We like this event because the ticket price includes all samples, so no futzing around with tokens, cash, crowns or frickin’ poker chips. Just pay, enter, eat. Enjoy!
