Iron Chef Battle tonight! Paul Boehmer vs. Susur Lee
Tonight on Food Network Canada, one of Canada's pioneering farm-to-table chefs, Paul Boehmer, battles one of Canada's most internationally recognized food personalities, Susur Lee. Boehmer gave us the background on his Iron Chef Canada experience when we popped in on a recent Drink Toronto Ossington Avenue tour. A stop at Böehmer's Restaurant is always a highlight for our tour guests, not only for his exquisite cooking but also for expertly made cocktails and an intriguing wine list.
"I got the call this summer," Boehmer says, "and it was a simple: 'Hey, we'd love to have you on the show. Is that something you'd want to do?'" So I said: "Sure!" The show was filmed in August, on the Iron Chef Canada soundstage north of Toronto. Apart from the studio being mighty hot — they can't have A/C units humming away during filming — Boehmer says it was a great experience. The judges on tonight's show are Amy Rosen, Noah Cappe and Adam Leith Gollner.
Of course, Boehmer is not allowed to say anything about the results. But I did ask him if he was happy with the secret ingredient. He chortled a little and said: "Yes, very happy." Given what we know about Boehmer's cooking, and the dishes we've enjoyed at his restaurant, we're betting on lamb, halibut, scallops, lobster or, maybe, summer-fresh tomatoes.
